USA Touch & BYU-Hawaii

TEMPE, Ariz – USA Touch has reached a membership agreement with BYU-Hawaii in which the University will offer touch related training to build their intramural sports program.  Touch will be school run sport where students will administer, coach and officiate the intramural leagues.  The first such program of its kind with Touch Football, BYU-Hawaii is pioneering this movement to offer the sport to all of their local and international students.

“BYU-Hawaii has a unique student base where the sport of touch can have far reaching effects with US based students, but also offers a pathway into other countries from their base of international students.  The opportunity for the sport along with these students has the potential to reach places we have never been before” said OJ Hawea, President of USA Touch.

Dean of Students, Melba Latu who has led the initiative has this to say about the project, “We are eager to offer this training and certification to our student body.  This is a terrific opportunity for students to learn the sport of touch rugby that is already played and loved internationally.  Our students are going to be able to learn these sills and when they graduate from BYU-Hawaii, they will share the sport with their families and communities all over the world.  What an incredible opportunity.”

USA Touch is excited to pioneer this program with BYU-Hawaii and will be rolling out referee training in Laie, Hawaii on the 28th and 29th of July, 2017.
